The wheat breeding research group of Institute of Dry Land Farming has cultivated over 30 new varieties of wheat these years. The mission of the research group is enhancing capacity of breeding and selection, taking breeding of water-saving wheat as the research core and providing technical services to the development of wheat industry. Meanwhile, the group focuses on brand promotion of Hengshui’s wheat---Hengmai, using the name of city where the institute located in.

On January 21st 2021, the logo of Hengshui’s wheat has been registered. The icon consists of several elements such as wheat grain, wheat ears and the sun. These stand for Hengshui’s wheat growing in the vast land, with full seed and high quality.

During recent 5 years, the group has cultivated a range of varieties named Hengmai 26, 27, 28, 29, and 30. The characteristics are water-saving, high yield and strong resistence of cold. They are suitable for planting in middle and high water capacity and fertilizer areas of winter wheat planting zone in southern part of Hebei.
