During October 16-18, the 13th seminar on management and development of soil fertilizer research institutes of national academies, sponsored by Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning, CAAS, and organized by Institute of Agricultural Resources and Environment, HAAFS, was held in Zhengding City, Hebei. More than 150 people from research units, government departments, companies and the news media attended the seminar.

The vice president ZHANG Qiang presided over the opening ceremony and president ZHANG Tielong made the welcome speech.

The conference focused on national food security and green agricultural development strategy, with the theme of “scientific and technological innovation leading the protection and utilization of cultivated land”.

Four experts gave keynote presentations at the seminar.

YU Xinrong, the council chairman of Chinese Society of Agricultural Green Development, gave a report entitled “guided by the new development concept, we should promote the farmland protection and take advantage of green transformation”. He stressed that promoting green agricultural development is a profound revolution of agricultural development concept and green development should be the main direction of farmland scientific and technological innovation in the new stage. He also put forward policies and measures to drive the farmland protection and take advantage of green transformation.

Researcher LI Rong from the Quality Monitoring and Protection Center of Cultivated Land, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, deeply analyzed the outstanding problems existed in the quality and protection of cultivated land in China, and put forward the strategies and approaches for future cultivated land management.

Researcher ZHOU Wei from the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning, CAAS, introduced the important progress and outstanding contribution made by the institute in protection and utilization of cultivated land under the continuous support of science and technology innovation project.

Researcher YUE Zengliang from the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Environment, HAAFS, systematically analyzed the situation and research progress of agricultural resources and environment in Hebei Province, and put forward that the main directions of the 14th Five-Year Plan should be in soil health, agricultural resources utilization, agricultural environment, agricultural ecology, agricultural microorganisms and so on.

Participants discussed the basic theoretical innovation, key technology R&D and regional technology integration of soil, environment, microbiology and other disciplines, and had an in-depth exchange of management experience. Consensus was reached at the meeting on strengthening the top-level design of the discipline, further condensing common and regional issues, the standard of the third general survey of soil, and creating a soil fertilizer science and technology innovation community.
