The comprehensive utilization of soil salinization and alkalization is a common scientific and technological problem faced by countries around the world. In order to strengthen international academic exchanges and cooperation, the academic seminar on soil salinization and nutrient management was successfully held in Shijiazhuang, China, on April 15 2024. The meeting was jointly organized by Hebei Agricultural Society, Hebei Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, and Institute of Resources and Environment of HAAFS, and conducted in a synchronous online and offline manner.

The seminar invited 4 experts, including Professor Wim Voogt from Wageningen University in the Netherlands, Professor Rodney Thompson from Almeria University in Spain, Associate Professor MU Kangguo from China Agricultural University, and Dr. YIN Junhui from Sun Yat sen University, to present their brilliant academic reports on "Dealing with salt accumulation in soil growth green house crops Focus on Na", "Salinity issues in Almeria, Spain: the problem, crop responses, crop management and solutions", "The promoting and salt resistant effects of corn syrup concentrate and inositol combination on baby bok choy", and “The mechanism of pH regulation of nitrous oxide emissions in acidic soil under fungal denitrification”. Professor Wim Voogt shared the response of crops to Na stress and the principle of sodium balance. In soilless cultivation systems, by optimizing irrigation and fertilizer management control and alleviating salt stress, efficient utilization of water and fertilizer resources and salt control can be achieved, solving prominent problems such as reduced vegetable yield and quality, sodium toxicity, and potassium calcium magnesium antagonistic absorption caused by salt stress. Professor Rodney Thompson shared the problem of soil salt accumulation in facility vegetables caused by seawater irrigation or seawater backflow in Almeria, Spain, the salt tolerance response and threshold of major fruit vegetables, as well as how to control and slow down soil salt accumulation through optimized irrigation and fertilization and desalination seawater irrigation technology to achieve sustainable vegetable development. Associate Professor MU Kangguo shared the research results on the promotion of crop growth and improvement of nutrient utilization efficiency by using bio stimulatory substances such as corn syrup concentrate and inositol. The research results have been industrialized and have good application effects in promoting crop growth, improving nutrient absorption and utilization, and adapting to saline alkali soil. Dr. YIN Junhui shared the microbial mechanism of pH regulation of nitrous oxide emissions in acidic soils under fungal denitrification. At the meeting, experts had lively discussions and in-depth exchanges on the contradiction between salt and nitrate nutrient leaching in soil, the role of bio stimulatory substances such as corn slurry concentrate and inositol in promoting crop nutrient absorption and improving crop adaptation to saline alkali soil mechanisms.
