On June 24, 2024, researcher ZHAO Yanhua and LI Yusheng from the cherry research team of Institute of Changli Fruit Research were invited to Huakun Ecological Park in Haigang District, Qinhuangdao to provide technical guidance on greenhouse cherry summer management.

According to the manager of the park, starting from mid June, some branches and trunks of the trees planted in the greenhouse of "Russian No.8" Cherry have been experiencing gum flow, withering and death, and this phenomenon occurs relatively concentrated. Through on-site observation and inquiring about the management situation before the onset of the disease, the expert team determined that the disease was caused by sunburn. Experts suggest that the "Russian No.8" Cherry are introduced from Russia and prefer cold and cool conditions. In China, high temperature damage should be prevented in summer. Shading nets can be set up to reduce the temperature inside the greenhouse and it can also reduce the impact of high temperature on the flower bud differentiation, causing excessive abnormal fruit.

Subsequently, experts proposed prevention and control measures for the occurrence of the two-spotted spider mite(Tetranychus urticae Koch) in the park, suggesting that post harvest management should not be ignored. High temperature and drought are the causes of the two-spotted spider mite outbreaks, and strengthening water and fertilizer management is the key to prevention and control. Timely watering is necessary in dry weather. Experts also inspected the growth of the cherry trees and proposed pruning measures to promote the growth of branches due to insufficient branching.

This emergency service timely diagnosed the causes of tree damage and proposed effective response measures, which is of great significance for the effective loss control and active prevention and control of diseases and pests in this orchard and similar bases.
